How we rank providers and how we make money

How we make money
BroadbandByZIP is free to use. We earn money in two ways:
- Affiliate commissions. Some "Check availability" buttons are affiliate links. If you sign up with a provider through one, the provider may pay us a commission. It does not change your price.
- Advertising. We show ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are labeled by Google and are separate from our provider listings.
Commissions do not affect which providers we list or the coverage figures we show. Not every provider has an affiliate program, and providers without one appear in the same tables, ranked by the same data. Affiliate links use rel="sponsored".
Where our data comes from
- Provider coverage: the FCC's National Broadband Map (Broadband Data Collection), data as of December 31, 2025. Providers report to the FCC which locations they can serve. We use the FCC's per-provider, per-city summaries.
- Local demographics: the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey 5-year estimates (2023) for population, income and household internet subscriptions by ZIP code.
- ZIP, city and county names: public ZIP code directories.
How we calculate coverage
The coverage percentage next to a provider is the share of residential locations in a city where the provider reports it can offer service, according to the FCC. Providers are sorted by that percentage, highest first. We hide providers reporting under 2%.
ZIP code pages show the coverage of the city the ZIP belongs to. The FCC's city summaries do not break coverage down by ZIP code.
What our numbers do not tell you
- Address-level availability. A provider can report 90% coverage of a city and still not serve your street. Always confirm with the provider.
- Speed and price. Our provider tables do not include speeds or prices, which vary by address and change often.
- Provider-reported data. The FCC publishes coverage as providers file it and accepts corrections through a challenge process. Errors are possible.
- Technology. The technology column lists what a provider offers somewhere in its footprint, not necessarily at every address in the city.
